Another day, another pub lunch, this time at the "Duke of Wellington" in Cowbridge (Welsh: Y Bont-Faen). A lovely market town in the Vale of Glamorgan which lies on the site of a Roman settlement. Lunch was on my mind more than taking photos of the town. The traditional pub menu offered such staple delights as delicious Welsh Cawl (lamb soup), always top of my choice. The best bit, dessert. Candied orange and cardamom panna cotta, slate lickingly good ....
Megan - You can dress the girl up :-)

The orange and cardamom pannacotta sounds divine. I am sure The Duke of Welly are bowled over by the last photo. Who needs ZAGAT when you've got a Megan!
ReplyDeleteHi there!
DeleteIt was very good, I love that squishy creaminess of Pana cotta. The Duke would roll in his grave :-) I had to google ZAGAT, how interesting. A bit more user friendly than Michelin!

HIlarious final photo. I think I might have done the same thing!
ReplyDeleteMitch,
DeleteI was tempted myself. My 50s stopped me. Probably my 80s won't give a damn! Megan's in her 20s, they do that :-)

Hi Marcia,
DeleteWonderful to see you. Hope you're well.
How could I not use that title? It said it all!

Haven't had that concoction, but sounds great! Typical to serve dessert at a Welsh pub on a slate...a don't blame you for the end result! Great photo!
ReplyDeleteRuth
Hi Ruth,
DeleteIt was gooooood. A lot of Welsh restaurants are now using hunks of slate and wood as plates. Usually the cheese board is slate. We have a lot of it here I suppose. It's not very nice to slide a spoon over though. Like nails on a chalkboard!

Yum!! Save me some, Megan :)
ReplyDeleteLoi
PS - Why are dessert servings always so tiny??
You'll be lucky Loi. :-)
DeleteI don't know why they are so small, it looks lost on its roof tile. I could have eaten this for appetiser, main and dessert. Hey, now there's an idea!

HOW COOL IS THIS! I would have never ever guess that is what your title meant! Oh how you can learn so many interesting things from one anothers' cultures! It looks delicious my dear...the slate and the panne cotta!
ReplyDeleteMuch love, Anita
Hello dearest,
DeleteI am guessing things are not served on unusual natural objects in your neck of the woods. We are all surrounded by such beautiful natural objects. I guess it just takes one person to imagine its use for something else. I have seen bread baked and served in flower pots, hunks of wood used as cheese boards. I am always amazed at the imagination.

Di,
ReplyDeleteThe second picture is the saddest thing I have seen in some time, lol. Good food and great fun compliment each other so well and it looks and sounds like you guys had a great pairing going on. And I do really like getting new ideas for table service, that is one I must try. – gary
Hi Gary,
DeleteWill you be looking around for some slate? I should have taken a photo of my main which was a bowl of Cawl on a slice of wood, rough hewn, with bread and cheese on the side. So close to nature!

I just hope she didn't stick to that roofing slate!!
ReplyDeleteWe often get things served on boards in restaurants, the bread especially - appealing to the eye but hopefully washed properly in the kitchen!
Great dessert - but yes, a double portion please!!
Mary
Hi Mary,
DeleteI know what you mean about "washed properly". Some high temperatures I hope as it seems there are a lot of nooks and crannies in the surface. Double portion indeed, I could eat Panna cotta til the cows come home!
I watched your Antarctic trip with wonderment - AMAZING!

DI DEAR! Hello there! I see my dear Irina was here! I get to "see" her tomorrow in person after school! She is such a delightful sister.
ReplyDeleteI thank you so much for stopping by. It has been fun to blog as usual, to improve my thinking and "poetry" attempts. Oh the fun of it all.
I hope spring is coming by your way? NOT HERE! Though it is so bright outside but snowy, we are inching our way forward, but March is a fighter; we are getting some snow tonight!
Big hugs, Anita

I LOVE Cowbridge! It's the first place I drove when I got a car when I lived in Cardiff.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, the place must have gone MAD when Wales won the game on Saturday. I listened to it on BBC Radio Cymru (but the english version). Sounded like such fun!
xo
OMG Meg, the nation erupted. It was a battle, the gladiators of rugby going head to head. The welsh and the English, centuries of warring! We whooped their arse :-)
