A Birthday and Rikishi Fatu

I had such a busy week, culminating with my birthday yesterday. I'm not a fan of celebrating birthdays. To me they are just another unwelcome reminder that I'm getting older. However, my loved ones had different ideas. Starting with bacon and eggs at my brother's, Tapas and Sangria for lunch, Latin American delights with Mojitos at Las Iguanas, and G&T night caps at Peppermint. Phew, I'm exhausted and, no doubt, 5lbs heavier!

I made out like a bandit on the gift front with a new leather handbag, a bunch of Clarins lotions and potions together with an instrument of torture which purports to rid one of cellulite (I'll let you know how that goes), sunglasses, perfumed burning oils, chocolates, divine flowers and a lucky lottery ticket which turned out to be not lucky enough to win me the £62M Euro pot. I feel blessed.

It was 29th April but positively balmy on the weather front with people brave enough to sit al fresco on Mill Lane in t-shirts. As the night was coming to a close we noticed this entourage surrounding a "big" guy when Vin exclaimed "I know that guy - that's Rikishi Fatu". Knowledged gained by university students during late night tv and pizza sessions. He was gracious enough to allow a fan the ultimate experience - thank you Rikishi, you made a Cardiff boy very happy!

  2. Darling Dianne,

It sounds as if you had a positively spiffing birthday. How wonderful.

Like you we have stopped celebrating, or rather, counting but it is so nice to be given such special treatment. Your family and friends really did push the boat out (no pun intended) for you. And, if the potions do not work their magic in making you look at least ten years younger, then there are always the sunglasses to hide behind. Very Hollywood!

    Many, many happy returns!

  3. Hello Dianne, Happy Birthday! Great photographs to let us share your night-on-the-town celebration. I had to look up Rishiki Fatu, the wrestler; certainly that face could not be mistaken after seeing it even once!

    1. Hello Jim,
I didn't know who he was either, I had to Google him when I got in. Seems he is quite well known Statewide. I think he was pleased someone in Cardiff even recognised him :-)
      Nice to see you.

  5. Dear Dianne - belated Happy Birthday my dear, and may you have many, many more, wrinkles included - and leather bags galore. I'm searching for the 'perfect one' for Summer - hasn't grabbed me yet!
Must be leather but lightweight (difficult!), have beautiful stitching, have a light colored lining so I can find things with failing eyesight, roomy but not gigantic, handles and a shoulder strap…….but most of all, a beautiful color that goes with everything as I'm storing and blacks and greys for a while! I know, I know………….I'm never going to find it!

Love and hugs and many happy returns.

    1. Hello Mary and thank you so much for your well wishes!
I have never put that much thought into a handbag but I see your point, especially with regards to the light coloured lining. I too have the failing sight. Must try harder in my choice next time. I'm usually like "ooooooo, a handbag, get it"!
      Good hunting!

  8. Dearest friend! I came by yesterday off my tablet and was unable to leave a comment - how you capture the lights of the city, and the light of the moment is pure artistry. The look on this young man's face to meet up with one of his favorite artists is wonderful. You seem to have some great clubs and restaurants in your area! ENJOY! Love, Anita

  12. I will add my Happy Birthday to the others! Looks like you celebrated in style! I happen to be going to a girl's night out "big" birthday for my little sister tonight. Her being that old must mean that I am older? I like you am not fond of birthdays!
